Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, stands as one of the oldest surviving fortifications in the United States and is the only Revolutionary War battlefield still intact in the city. The early colonial period recognized the area along the Delaware River as a strategic defensive point. Swedish settlers first fortified the site in the 1600s, and the British later expanded it as tensions in the colonies escalated.
