Sachs Bridge Area Gettysburg, Pennsylvania This particular Confederate Field Hospital area includes the John Sachs Farm and Mill and the Samuel Pitzer Farm (and Schoolhouse). At least 21 identified Confederate graves are noted in the area surrounding the Sachs Farm and Pitzer's Farm and Schoolhouse. The Pitzer Schoolhouse is no longer standing. One, or more of these buildings were used, at least temporarily, by some of the many wounded Confederate soldiers making their way westward, out of danger, from the fighting on July 2nd, which took place along the Emmitsburg Road and beyond.
