History

History information is some background and history about the location. This is meant to be a basic summary. Below the history records you will find sources in which you can click on to find out more information. There may be multiple history records per location.

This home was built by the Wades. It is not clear as to the actual date it was built since some reports say it was a few years after Jenny was born to when Jenny was age 11. Either way, this is the home that Jenny, her siblings, and her mother lived in this house. The "Jenny Wade" house was the home of her sister where the family went when the battle broke out since her sister was pregnant. That is the house where Jenny Wade was killed.

Jenny's father was not with the family since he was at the Alms house where Mary had him committed when he returned from prison.

Stories

New York businessman, John White Johnston was fascinated with the Wade story and purchased the birth house and the Breckenridge house. On May 21, 1922 he dedicated a bronze placard at the Breckenridge house that Georgia actually unveiled. The following photograph is of Georgia unveiling the placard that is now on the house.
