Kenyon is the oldest private college in Ohio and was founded in 1824.
Originally, Kenyon College was an all-male college whose main focus was to educate clergymen for frontier America. It soon however, became highly regarded for it's education. In 1969, women began studies at Kenyon College.
In addition to expanding to include women, Kenyon College expanded intellectually as well and has earned national recognition in many fields. Well-known alumni include not only a host of writers but also actors, scientists, educators, artists, leaders in business, and U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes
The College's literary prominence dates to 1939, when John Crowe Ransom founded the Kenyon Review.
