Ghost of John Wayne

Definition: Does the "Duke" miss his favorite yacht.

Marion Robert Morrison, professionally known as John Wayne and nicknamed "the Duke", was an American actor who became a popular icon through his starring roles in films which were produced during Hollywood's Golden Age, especially in Western and war movies. His career flourished from the silent era of the 1920s through the American New Wave, as he appeared in a total of 179 film and television productions.

Wayne rose beyond the typical recognition for a famous actor to that of an enduring icon who symbolized and communicated American values and ideals. Using the power of communication through silent films and radio, Wayne was instrumental in creating a national culture from disparate areas of the US, and made the creation of a national hero possible.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family on his yacht the Wild Goose. The yacht , a decommissioned US Navy YMS-1-class Yard Mine Sweeper, built in Ballard, Washington at Ballard Marine & Railway was converted into a private sailing vessel and later purchased by Wayne is still in service and docked at the harbor of Newport Beach, California. Wayne spent most of his time on the vessel in his later years. Several celebrities joined him on the ship for either private sailing trips or just to spend some time playing poker, bridge, or chess.

Although The old "Duke" passed away on June 11, 1979, aged 72 of stomach cancer, his spirit has been seen on his old yacht, from time to time. When psychics investigated the ghost reports, they felt that Wayne isn't "trapped" here, but rather just returns to one of his favorite places.
